Title: Perfect One Post by: Martin E on August 06, 2007, 05:58:14 PM I don't know how to characterize this song.
It started out as an acoustic guitar based idea. Then I came up with about seven Mellotron tracks for it and the whole thing shifted into another direction. This song to me,has a hint of 80's new wave to it,which reminds me of Orchestral Manuevers In The Dark-or OMD.I think it fits under the pop category. Everything is crisp, clean & is mixed very well...impressive work. 8) Elwood Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Martin E on August 07, 2007, 07:47:31 AM Thanks Elwood.
OMD and 80's New Wave might be a suited description. I remember OMD they had some nice songs. Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Wyatt on August 07, 2007, 08:45:29 AM Martin,
I was unable to connect to your song this morning. Wyatt Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Katzafatz on August 07, 2007, 08:49:16 AM Hi Martin,
what a great Song! But after one Minute and 44 seconds I hear a Guitar it sounds not as I expected. For my ears it is a little bit dull. ( The German Word is "dumpf". I could not find the correct translation). It is as i have a Flu and could not hear clearly. But overall I really like your Song. Katzafatz Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Wyatt on August 07, 2007, 09:14:24 AM Martin,
I'm glad I kept trying.. ..this is a beautiful song.. ..smooth, mellow, and..well, pretty. You do have a good touch. Katzafatz Thanks Katza. The guitar is a bit jazzy sounding and that's usually "dumpf" as you say ;D There are actually four guitars playing that riff. I think it's suitable in the context of the rest of the arrangement. I can't envision anything different or spectacular in its place there. Glad you liked the song anyway. Martin, I'm glad I kept trying.. ..this is a beautiful song.. ..smooth, mellow, and..well, pretty. You do have a good touch. Wyatt Thanks Wyatt. Glad you like it. I sometimes fear my songs are too smooth, mellow and pretty. ;D Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Wyatt on August 07, 2007, 12:48:52 PM Thanks Wyatt. Glad you like it. If I was going to make any suggestions it would be to just very slightly edge back with the percussion. Having said that, it could be my speakers aren't too good!
Although elwood blues said 80s. As soon as I heard it I thought 'early 60s'. Any way. Good work. But I can imagine that on certain speakers certain frequencies ranges are more prominent than others. You say early sixties. Now that's interesting. As I said I found it difficult to pinpoint it myself. Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Fred S on August 09, 2007, 02:56:07 AM Yeah, I think the tune would be perfectly at home in the early 60's sans the quality of the recording.
Its just beautiful. Totally different and still Martin. Its amazing to me what comes out of your mind... Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Wyatt on August 09, 2007, 09:13:07 AM Its just beautiful. Totally different and still Martin. Its amazing to me what comes out of your mind... Thanks a lot Fred. I'm a bit puzzled by the sixties reference actually. My perspective is too subjective at the moment I guess. And what comes out of my mind; I don't know. I think I've undergone a broad spectrum of influences during the years from which I can distill my songwriting. If that makes any sense. Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Fred S on August 09, 2007, 05:16:01 PM I think I've undergone a broad spectrum of influences during the years from which I can distill my songwriting. If that makes any sense. As opposed to those prog rock guys stuck in the 70's ;) ;D Yeah, I do think it makes sense based on what you've written. That said however, you still have to write it. Its clearly a creditable skill to song writing...allowing that level of creative openness when writing. Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: kara on August 14, 2007, 06:22:48 PM Beautifull song, as we are used too from you.
I actually it sounds more 80's then 60's and I'm old enough to have lived the 60's ;D The release on the strings is a bit short for the type of song, but that's just a detail Thanks for sharing k Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Martin E on August 15, 2007, 07:29:56 AM The release on the strings is a bit short for the type of song, but that's just a detail Thanks Kara. I don't know about the release. I thought it was already pretty long. It's still fading while the next chord is already being played. But I'll have another listen to it. Ditto This is the first song of your I have heard Martin so I have no baseline of your work. However this song is extremely well balanced. It has an excellent mix. The vocals were superb, as were the backing tracks. The drums sounded perfect here. My guess is that you are a professional - MarioD Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Wyatt on August 19, 2007, 12:02:43 AM This is the first song of your I have heard Martin so I have no baseline of your work. As I’ve indicated to Martin, if I heard this cut in a music store I would buy the CD. It’s that good. Thanx again - MarioD Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Martin E on August 19, 2007, 01:24:34 PM Wyatt and Mario. Take it easy guys. I might start walking beside my shoes (as Fred knows all too well) As an old Dutch saying goes.
Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: FourthMansions on August 19, 2007, 07:18:27 PM Hi Martin
I don't care if it's 60s or 80s :) - this is a lovely song. You seem to keep getting better. I especially love the harmonies on the chorus. Good production as well. One to keep. Title: Re: Perfect One Post by: Martin E on August 20, 2007, 07:50:57 PM Thanks FM.
Well we try to get better all the time, don't we. All of us ;D |
