Title: And Now For Something Completely Different!
Post by: folderol on August 18, 2007, 08:22:05 PM
This is a tune that I really need to update. I recorded it quite a few years ago, but when going though my stuff recently, immediately thought that offthewall/james might find it interesting.

It was inspired by a family I used to know that were all heavily into folk music and dancing. Mum & dad sang, and played various instruments - guitar, keyboard etc. but the daughter was amazing, she could play just about any wind instrument, and is the only person I've ever heard who could really 'bend' notes on a tin whistle.

Folderol, I wouldn’t change a thing!  I think it’s perfect as is.

Very nice lead lines and harmonies.  I really enjoyed the break in the middle of the song.

This song is VERY entertaining - MarioD

You're right, Will.
This is yet another one that I shall put away, for that rainy day, when I can find time to play many, many instruments over it!  ;)
You are truly keeping this old man entertained!  8)

Not the sort of tune I'd normally listen to so I can't comment in any detail, but it's very well written and played. Nice break in the middle.

Thanks everyone for your comments.

The reason I thought of making changes was that I thought the main lead sounded too hard and brittle. I was thinking of substituting an instrument a bit smoother. I discounted the idea of adding a bass line as soon as the idea occurred to me, as with the other instruments, and the folksy nature of the tune it just would not fit!

I hope I'm not giving you too much work  ;D It would be nice to hear this with real instruments.

I sweated for many hours over that guitar part. I'm glad it was worth it!

Something different alright. Really sounds like background music of a Monthy Python cartoon.
