Yes the elusive Fred Martin is back. I had an rudimentary idea for a song of which I only knew for sure it needed a piano part. So I send it to Fred to work on. The part he came up with amazed me cos it really gave the whole song such a natural flow despite a not-everyday chord sequence. It made it very easy for me to fill in the rest of the arrangement. So a big "thank you" to Fred. It was also Fred's idea to use this song for the Respect project which meant I had to come up with some suitable lyrics to fit the bill. So I did and this song tries to convey the thought that time is running out (hence the title Count to seven) and we as a human race need to evaluate our primary goals. Economic pursuit and consumerism versus preservation of nature and the quality of our living environment. We only have one planet to live on and we haven't got a spare one lying about. Fred and I finished our contribution to the Respect project. You can find the link in the first post.
Here are the lyrics as well.
COUNT TO SEVEN
NOW THE TIME HAS COME WE MUST REALIZE SOMETHING’S GONNA HAVE TO CHANGE WE JUST CAN’T GO ON LOOK AT WHAT WE’VE DONE IN THE NAME OF THE HUMAN RACE
THINK ABOUT THE LIFE WE’VE CHOSEN ABOUT THE LIVES WE LEAD ARE WE GONNA LET IT HAPPEN I AM GONNA COUNT TO SEVEN
WE ARE LIVING ON WHERE WE ALL BELONG PLANET EARTH IS WHERE WE STAY TRY TO LOOK BEYOND WHERE YOU’RE COMING FROM IN THE END THERE IS NO ESCAPE
THINK ABOUT THE LIFE WE’VE CHOSEN ABOUT THE LIVES WE LEAD ARE WE GONNA LET IT HAPPEN I AM GONNA COUNT TO SEVEN ARE WE GONNA SAVE THIS WORLD FROM GRIEF
I AM WAITING NOW LIKE A LITTLE CHILD I WILL FIND A HIDEAWAY NO ONE REALLY KNOWS HOW IT’S GONNA GO WILL WE EVER SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY

Fred Martin likes to get down to business. No messin around. Tough guy to work with I used to be blown away by your ability to come up with beautiful vocal melodies and outstanding lyrics, Martin. But you do it every single time! So now, its just business as usual Great work! Thanks for letting me play along btw, you never asked, but I know you know that was TP's "rock" (with a couple minor tweaks). Next time we'll try Sampletekk's Black Grand. I think that one has a lot of potential...just have to get the tweaks worked out first.

I'm surprised it's TP really. But on the other hand it confirmes my believe that TP is a great piano vst. I really thought it was one of the big sample piano's. Maybe you can share the tweaks you did.

If this is going to be the standard for the project........then I think I'll go home now and go to sleep and never wake up..... Mmm well I don't know what to say, James. Did you wake up yet.

Not much, really. A little verb and EQ. +4db around 60, a little cut at 200 & 600 and some boost at around 6K. I think it doesn't need quite as much midrange. Of course, if we were playing with bass guitar, I'd want to cut quite a bit down low in the non-solo sections and let the bass to the work....reduce the mud. It plays well out of the box. But for me, getting the velosity curve as comfortable as possible is very important...hopefully, closer to a real piano. I go a little soft so I can play comfortably with out pushing the dynamics and then the accents come more natural with a little push. But everyone has their own playing style in this respect.
