Now on to meaningful topics...

The US team won't be lining up on the grid this year. Very disappointing.

Had a Corona on Monday. Forgot how much I like beer.

Bought some almonds & macadamias today...there ya have it...beer & nuts!

One last thing (for now)...

The aerial shots from the Olympic sites were simply stunning. Going to have to visit soon.

Big deal Tongue Roll Eyes

I know... I used to play hockey, before it became an exercise in "domination through intimidation".
Had a run-in with this kid (during a practice game), a nephew of a famous NHL star, and felt like he'd nearly decapitated me. His target: me, not the puck. We were about 16 years old; seems I lost interest in the game about that time...

I used to be a goalie until the guys my age got really good at shooting.  Then a friend said  "Are you nuts? He is shooting as hard as he can and you are intentionally trying to get in the way of it!"

About then I came to my senses.
Tried switching to defense the next year, but had some experiences like Oren that once again brought me to my senses (once I recovered)

Being from Detroit its the only sport we can count on..  Shocked

I never could get into these 'violent' games Shocked For me it was things like running, swimming etc. No contact with the other side Wink

I actually enjoyed the contact.  The roughing around was fun.  When it bacame more 'serious' I decided it was time to let common sense kick in. If it could have stayed roughing around for fun I'd still play, but some guys got too physical where the fun went away real fast.

So I turned into the next great tennis star!  Well almost ..  Grin

I actually enjoyed the contact.

A goalie, eh? Sorta like a drummer - all reflexes, and attitude... Grin

I had the pleasure of spending some time with Johnny Bower in a fishing camp up north. He was one of the last goal keepers to play without a mask, and his face was just covered in small scars. Tough man!

Makes me think of American football, where the game became so dangerous they really needed all that padding.  Whats the point?
Mind you I can't understand all those stops and starts anyway. The game doesn't seem to have any sort of flow.

I enjoy football.  I turned to that after quiting hockey.
Eventually I dislocated my shoulder and that one ended too.
So it was tennis from then on. I started tennis early on in life and accomplished more in that than any of the others.

American football is a lot of stop/start, but the strategy during those 30 second breaks is fun.  Figuring out what the other guy is going to do, etc.
Then full force attempts at moving the ball. The right play and good execution are the challenge. Then before you really recover from the previous effort, you are lining up for the next battle.  It really is a game of battles, individual and team, and has a touch of chess thrown in.

Football is much more complicated than hockey.  Hockey is more spontaneous and reaction based.  However icing and off-sides are pretty much the only rules (other than unfair individual play like tripping etc)  So I think football takes a little more planning/thinking.   But hockey is much more exciting. IMO anyway.

Yes, I have watched Rugby and question their sanity  Smiley

There is a reason those American football players wear all that padding, and most of them still suffer quite a bit from their profession.  I can only imagine the later life of Rugby players.

Interesting F1 result today - bloody boring race, mind you Sad but then Bahrain always is!

Might take a while for Schumacher to get into his stride again.

I feel sorry for Vettel - he had the race in the bag until the car went weird on him.

What do you think of the new rules regarding fuel. I think I liked the old rules better; strategy for fuel load during qualifying & 2 vs 3 stops in the race. Looks like 1 tire stop may now be the norm. Less entertaining for me. That said, it seems F1 is usually quite keen on fixing things that aren't broke.
