I don't know how to characterize this song.

It started out as an acoustic guitar based idea. Then I came up with about seven Mellotron tracks for it and the whole thing shifted into another direction.

Here it is:

Hi Martin,

This song to me,has a hint of 80's new wave to it,which reminds me of Orchestral Manuevers In The Dark-or OMD.I think it fits under the pop category.

Everything is crisp, clean & is mixed very well...impressive work. Cool

Thanks Elwood.

OMD and 80's New Wave might be a suited description. I remember OMD they had some nice songs.

Hi Martin,

what a great Song!

But after one Minute and 44 seconds I hear a Guitar it sounds not as I expected. For my ears it is a little bit dull. ( The German Word is "dumpf". I could not find the correct translation). It is  as i have a Flu and could not hear clearly. But overall I really like your Song.

Thanks Katza.

The guitar is a bit  jazzy sounding and that's usually "dumpf" as you say  Grin There are actually four guitars playing that riff. I think it's suitable in the context of the rest of the arrangement. I can't envision anything different or spectacular in its place there. Glad you liked the song anyway.

Thanks Wyatt. Glad you like it. I sometimes fear my songs are too smooth, mellow and pretty.  Grin

This is a very nice gentle tune. it has a full backing without being a 'wall of sound'. If I was going to make any suggestions it would be to just very slightly edge back with the percussion. Having said that, it could be my speakers aren't too good!

Although elwood blues said 80s. As soon as I heard it I thought 'early 60s'. Any way. Good work.

Thanks Folderol.

By the percussion you probably mean the shaker. It doesn't sound too loud on my speakers. But I can imagine that on certain speakers certain frequencies ranges are more prominent than others.

You say early sixties. Now that's interesting. As I said I found it difficult to pinpoint it myself.

Yeah, I think the tune would be perfectly at home in the early 60's sans the quality of the recording.

Its just beautiful.  Totally different and still Martin. Its amazing to me what comes out of your mind...

Thanks a lot Fred.

I'm a bit puzzled by the sixties reference actually. My perspective is too subjective at the moment I guess.

And what comes out of my mind; I don't know. I think I've undergone a broad spectrum of influences during the years from which I can distill my songwriting. If that makes any sense.

As opposed to those prog rock guys stuck in the 70's Wink  Grin

Yeah, I do think it makes sense based on what you've written. That said however, you still have to write it. Its clearly a creditable skill to song writing...allowing that level of creative openness when writing.

Beautifull song, as we are used too from you.

I actually it sounds more 80's then 60's and I'm old enough to have lived the 60's  Grin

The release on the strings is a bit short for the type of song, but that's just a detail

Thanks for sharing
