This is my August contest entry for KVR..an idea worth developing. I have been working a lot on my percussion tracks lately. This one is mixed from 9 HammerHead tracks, with Congas added. There is an elusive, "je ne sais quoi", that I am after percussion-wise..this is another step on the journey.. ..like the guy said..another step closer to home. I didn't add bass, keyboard, or harmonica to this..once I got this far..well, it just seemed to say it. Wyatt

Have you actually submitted this to KVR yet. I haven't spotted it so far - hope I didn't miss it! It's quite interesting. Kudos to you for attacking percussion - my thoughts on that are well know

Kudos to you for attacking percussion - my thoughts on that are well know Thank you folderol, for your comments. ..I just this morning read something about you and percussion. ..when I realized the profound influence percussion has on a song, I decided to see if I couldn't learn to put a nice foundation underneath. ..want to try something trippy?? ..re-record a song you have already done using a different style of percussion track, @ the same bpm..it can be a real ear opener..it was for me. Wyatt, The guitar work had an immediate impact on me,as it has a great hook to it and it's very soulful. The melodies are pretty intense, but I could not follow the drum track & I could not hear how the drum tracks fit into this song,as it did not make any sense to me. Your choice of drum sounds was very artful & unique, but the patterns in contrast to the guitar work made it sound like 2 radios tuned to two different radio stations playing at the same time. Essentially though,I think it is a fantastic idea and I look forward to hearing the end result of this piece, because it has tremendous potential. Elwood

The thing that I have tried to avoid with the drum track, is that, predictable, relentless, "boom, boom, chicka-boom", that I so often end up making with a drum-software.. ..I also tried to not have it remain continuously constant.. ..of course the downside is the occasional trip through the berry patch. I most certainly will be continuing to work on that..next time I'll get it! Wyatt

Nice guitar work, Wyatt. Like the composition you have here and as you say could be developed further.
Have to agree with Elwood on the drum/percussion, which is a bit all over the place at the moment. Have you tried recording with a guide track just to keep you in time. It's what I sometimes do. After geting things down the guide track can be deleted.

Thanks guys, for the comments. I've been working on this some more. @ Martin: Thank you for the suggestion..how I go about it is: I play the chords first to get a feel for what I want in a drum track..then I make the drum track..then I record the rhythm guitar..that's how I get started..the problem comes in later, when I start snipping things and moving them around. Here is a new version..it sounds Sooo much better now,..thanks fellas.I don't know what got tangled up in the process, but obviously something did..that happens to me a lot. I backed up to this point, and will keep working on the rest of the percussion. Do you think its OK at this point? Or should I back up one more step, and re-do the HH track? I don't mind..I am trying to learn a whole lot of things right now, and I have never done much with drum tracks until just recently. Haha..I should have posted here before entering it. Wyatt I do a lot of 3 am studio time, and so I often mix with headphones..didn't have a chance to reference this mix yet, so it's my best guess.

Wyatt, You and I think alike in many instances (you should be very afraid ) and this little exercise is a good example. Some low-tech action with high vibrational content feels like a good therapeutic maneuver, somehow. This one's a real cutie. I think I'll fire up "Hotstepper" - HammerHead's associate rythm progrgam - and see what goes down. Time for some instrumental guitar over old-school beat box Take cover, friend, this could get crazy, Oren.

Some low-tech action with high vibrational content feels like a good therapeutic maneuver, somehow. Nothing like being in good company. This one's a real cutie. I think I'll fire up "Hotstepper" - HammerHead's associate rythm program - and see what goes down. Time for some instrumental guitar over old-school beat box I can't wait to hear it..still wrestling the HammerHead! Take cover, friend, this could get crazy,

..hehe..that's what I like to hear! (..when faced with overwhelming odds, a rapid, outrageous operation stands an excellent chance of success.) Let 'er rip!! Wyatt

Very nice Wyatt
The guitar playing is excellent all the way through and I liked the way it worked with the percussion. I would have liked the track to be longer though.
