I'm not much wiser than you about Bandcamp actually. It's a bit convoluted. You have to have a paypal account, as that is where payments are made. When you've created an artists account you can create an album or just add individual songs. For mine, I just stuck with the recommended payment amounts.
You are not charged anything for having the account itself. Bandcamp takes a very small amount of extra payment from people buying. If nobody buys, nobody pays. They recommend you upload wav files, or at least the highest quality you can. They will then make conversions to all the popular formats.

That is very interesting information Will.
Most paces that I have come across make you pay up front for membership.
Do you know if they have facility for making revenue splits where the album tracks are collabs?
