It's a promise I made one year ago, and it's finaly there: the new artist section.  :-

Just go to www.kara-moon.com and you'll see what it is about.

If you're allready registerd as an artist, just login and go the "your profile". You will need to enter some text in there and upload a photo. That will make you visible on the main artits page. Note, the artist login is a different login tahn the forum login.

All your songs are still there, you'll see them after you filled in your profile.

If you are not yet registered, then this is the time to register as an artist !

You'll need:
- a photo (resolution +/- 640x480)
- a text about yourself
- at least one finished song

I've put some work in the new artist section,  so I hope you will reward me by registering and uploading all of your finished songs.

Let's put it simple: your songs deserve to be there, and you'll make me very happy !

Enjoy and don't hesitate to post comments here...

While I was attempting to fill out my profile,I selected a photo from my "documents" folder using the "browse" button,but it did not work.

Also,I was wondering what the photo box below the browse button is for?

Did I do something wrong,or do I need to re-size my photo?

What was the size of your photo (in pixels)?

Sometimes you have to exit the artists section, then go back in to see the changes/additions that have taken place. Also, all the fields with the red asterisk have to be filled out completely.

(that box is where the photo will appear when your profile kicks in....... :D)

mmmhhh... I must be sure to have a decent picture of a decent size before starting registration process... :-\

You don't need a photo of yourself, this could also be a picture that you feel you have an identity with.

Thom, the brows button will point to the picture you will upload. After hitting the 'submit button, you should get the photo in the image. Note that this will happen only after hitting the "submit" button.

If it doesn't work, please tell me what browser you are using and I will have another look.

Just a global comment:

When registering, please note that your registration will not appear in the list untill you've uploaded 1 song. This is to make sure we only get registrations of artists and not of people trying to sell blue pills and stuff like that...

the image is JPG 640x480 24bit color depth, 300 dpi size is 74.448 byte
I'm using my laptop's IE 6.00.2800.1106 under win2000
is it me or something related to my system ?

I tried different images with the same result... :-\

Give it another try. I've changes the rights on the artist pics directory. I think that was the problem...

Thanks for the great new design! It is very elegant and works much better than the old one.
The player is great and even plays one of my uploads that was giving some trouble before.

I also want to thank you for allowing us to update and correct the information for each song, as well as the ability to delete a song that we no longer want.

Just one small request which hopefully does not take much time on your part.

Is it already possible to have separate paragraphs? I input several new lines to make the blurb much easier to read but it all got put together. Is there some special code for getting  new lines? Or is it not possible with the current way it is configured?

Hi Dan, thanks for the kind words.

About the paragraphs: in it's current setup, you can't add paragraphs. I'll include this feature in the next update. Yes, I'm planning to include extra features, but first let's se hwo many artists make it to the new artist section.

If anyone else has requests, feel free to ask it: I'll add it to the list of requested features.

Well I've had a lot of fun browsing the new site, and it's very good :-

Folderol, when you registered, you should have recieved an email with a confirmation link that is needed to activate your acount. I've activated it manualy for you. You're now visible.

It was interesting how you managed to allude to 4/4 time when in "eastern" mode, the slide into 3/4 for "west".
The phase-shift effect and interesting percussive sounds helped "costume" the eastern bits without you having to go too heavy on the black keys to get the mood across - very clever.

I was planning to change the old song page with a page containing the last 15 to 20 submitted songs. The player will also be included so you immediatly hear the most submitted song. From there, you'll be able to to navigate to the artist you like. I could have this ready by the weekend...

It's actually in 6/8, which as my old piano teacher taught me, means you can fake 2/4 or 3/4  by missing out beats, and 'imply' 4/4 - sometimes works, sometimes doesn't ::)

PS : another big 'joke'...  2 days ago I started to work on a song for somebody else.  A dull job : cut and correct timing of nearly every note of a total of 4 minutes audio.  I finished at 3:30 in the morning, clicked on play with the rest of the tracks also activated now...  :o Kakafonia-total ! Correctly played indeed.  The only trouble : I placed everything in 4/4, while the rest of the band played dead calm a shuffle (6/4)...

This is an example of one of the best ways to learn something : the hard, I won´t forget this one very soon...

Yesterday I did a redo, added new drums and a second guitar.  Now it sounds super, already in the first mix ! ;D
   

Oops...the black keys, ebony, as it were... ;D They form a five note scale that is vaguely representative of Asian musical styles. Pentatonic?

Would love to uplaod some songs,but I cannot even erect my profile,as I run into a brick wall,because I had already made an attempt to create a profile and because of that,every time I try again,I get an error message saying that there is already someone with that username.
I need that info cleared out before I can get started...that's is until I screw up the application process again & have to start all over. :-\ ::)

Ummm...er-uh...sh*t,I just realized that I do not even recall what my username or password is. :-[I have entirely too many identities rolling around in my head to keep track of and I made the mistake of not writing them down.

Is there any way that you could delete what I've done so far without my user & pass info?
I'd really rather not change my artist name,as if I do that,I might as well change my name from Thom to Ralph.

I just tucked another fresh one in there at 160 Kbits....everything performed flawlessly (except me, but you're used to that :'().

Got it finaly fixed... ::) I´m out-loaded...  19 songs ! ???
At a certain moment the 'thing' wouldn´t accept a song; I thought : "Maybe it´s right, ´cose the song needs a little retouch."  But when it happened again with another song (a favourite this time), I said something ugly to the server. 

I found out that the difference between a "9" and a "g" is quiet difficult to see... 8) ;) ;D

I´ll write some comments on the fellow sites a other moment; tonight I have no more words...

As a temporary workaround load your song up with the same title but without the single quote (') in the title.
Load it up as I think it is a shame and it will work

HI Andreas,
To change the order number you have to login then click on 'edit song'. There you can change the order number. The only problem is that you may have to renumber all of them in sequence. Don't forget to refresh the page after each change,

Can you believe the variety of music that is showing up in the artist section? :o

Like some kind of contemporary grass-roots multi-faceted musical....organism ??? -  energetic, spontaneous, and constantly changing...

I hope people exercise the opportunity to upgrade their songs as new/improved versions develop. Unlike CDs/tapes/albums, this collection of your material can grow, mutate, improve, or shed it's skin like a snake.

One of my friends visited the new section and was realy amazed by the clear lay-out of the site : no confusing details !

Your work, Moon ? Are/were you into grafical design ? ???

Both of you remember me of Miel Gielen, that Belgian guy (ex bass player of The Pebbles and owner of a music shop) who did more for the Belgian rock scene than he surely realizes himself.
Every new interesting instrument of piece of gear that came on the market he got immeditely and the next day some of us could try it out during 14 days at home !
He in fact invented the trial period for hardware when software was still 'boiling' in Bill Gates garage !
The difference : you do it on world scale with a virtual service.
Similarity : more people can make more and better music ! ;D

I still have lot's of ideas to make the artist section even better, but for the time being, I miss the time to work on it. So, let's see who joins the artist section and I'll promise to come up with an even better version in the future... One thing is certain. We'll stick with the current design !  ;)

I agree it is so nice to see a clear uncluttered website.

There one small comment I'd like to make. Some LCD screens (like mine) show dark colours very poorly. Would it be possible to lighten the background on the player titles display so the next song for playing is easier to see?

The vibe in the artist section just got several degrees cooler... Dimitar Nalbantov - http://www.dimirock.com/ - uploaded a song. For those who may not know, this guy is one of the premier guitarists of our time, no exaggeration :o And a Bulgarian art teacher; which goes to show that even the best of us need a day job to pay the bills... ;D.

Watch out for this producer, engineer, home recordist, and keyboard player.

That new one from Dimitar sounds good - an unmastered mix of a new song. I love to have the opportunity to hear a talented artist's work in unfinished form, just to get a feel for the underlying production.

Speaking of guitar work, I've been listening to Marc's...er, Max el Belga's :D entertaining selection of songs, and some of his guitar stylings display advanced chops 8). I thought old guys weren't supposed to be able to play like that... :P Schweet!

That's very strange. Being a paranoid sort, as soon as I uploaded these I quit and restarted Firefox to check they were OK. I've just done the same a few minutes ago and had no problems at all ???

There must be a Firefox add-on or plug-in that I have not downloaded or installed properly. The player on the artist page works fine on my windoze computer (with the Firefox browser), but this beautiful Linux machine is having trouble, just yet... ::)

Do you have javascript enabled?
If you have the NoScript plugin, have you enabled javascript for both the website and the player?

I have staunchly avoided putting anything from Adobe on this Linux machine, nor have I downloaded Java. Everything but the "trippy stuff" works very well here with just the open-source software installed.
I'll deploy the windoze machine to listen to our Artist Page player. ;)
