Title: Contemplating the Journey Post by: kara on June 14, 2008, 09:03:59 AM I'm doing a lot of travelling at the moment which gives the problem that I don't have the time to do a lot in my studio >:(
Today I'm back again from a week away from home and my fingers where tickeling to play a bit.... This small song was done in a hour tops using my 15 years old GEM SK760 keyboard connected to my BOSS BR600 recorder. Just 2 takes. Take 1 : Autodrums from the keyboard, and keyboard split in left hand EP and right hand Organ. Take 2 : Added the bass As it is an old keyboard, it sounds a bit retro but I quit like the sound of it. Hm, It could perhaps use a bit guitar ? The song title is : Contemplating the journey. k Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: Laguna Rising on June 14, 2008, 02:56:12 PM Very nice retro jazz sounding track, lovely melodies, it sounds perfect with the rain on my window (right now)
Well done K Cheers Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: folderol on June 14, 2008, 03:52:03 PM Yes, very nice track. To me, it has a sort of 50s-60s dance-hall atmosphere.
Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: elwoodblues1969 on June 14, 2008, 04:16:10 PM Kara,
This song has the atmosphere of a classic european short film-a very authentic quality to it. :) This piece would go great with the dream I had last night...I dreamt that I was visiting Paris and I was sitting out on a veranda eating french bean soup....very strange though,as I never had the pleasure of doing such a thing.. ??? ;D Needless to say,I woke up extremely hungry! :o This piece as it is sounds just fine, but I would love to hear what you would do with a guitar track. :D Fantastic job Sir. 8) Cheers, Thom Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: offthewall on June 14, 2008, 05:24:33 PM :D
I just happened to be 'plugged in' when I heard this piece, so did a quick and dirty take. Enjoy. ;) James Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: kara on June 14, 2008, 05:28:53 PM Realy good chorus over the song James 8)
Honnestly, a bit of guitar over a song, just adds an extra dimension to a song. See what I ment Thom ? k Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: Moon on June 14, 2008, 05:51:59 PM I was sitting out on a veranda eating french bean soup.... Actually, In Paris... that would be 'onion-soup' and you would wake up running to a toilet ;D About the song... nice going. Wouldn't have guessed this is a 15 year old workstation. Pitty though GEM isn't making things like that anymore. Glad to see you're still playing those keys Kara ! ;) Moon Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: Wyatt on June 14, 2008, 06:06:42 PM haha..I knew this one would be popular..
8) Wyatt EDIT: ..cleaned this version up a little. Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: kara on June 14, 2008, 06:06:53 PM Moon,
The GEM is a sample based workstation where you can use your proper samples. So, it's normal that you didn't reconize the sound as most samples come from my Roland expander ;D It's amazing how good those workstations sound with a minimum of memory to squeeze your samples in ;D k Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: Moon on June 14, 2008, 06:08:33 PM Like I said... pitty they don't make them anymore. That's a keeper ( both the song and the GEM :D )
Moon Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: kara on June 14, 2008, 06:11:02 PM Good one Wyatt ! I immediatly reconized your style 8)
What is a real joy here is, when you put up a simple tune in a pretty standard Am progression, other musicians immediatly reconize it and play on top of it :- Isn't this a great forum ? :; k haha..I knew this one would be popular.. 8) Wyatt Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: Wyatt on June 14, 2008, 06:12:49 PM Good one Wyatt ! I immediatly reconized your style 8) Isn't this a great forum ? :; k Yeah..I didn't want to break for lunch. :) 8) Wyatt Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: folderol on June 14, 2008, 06:32:04 PM 'kinnell two rather smooth collab overlays in the same day :o

This one's shaken, not stirred. Loved listening to this!! Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: Oren on June 15, 2008, 08:12:01 AM That walking bass line really worked for me. 8) Tasteful, authoritive, nicely executed.
Title: Re: Contemplating the Journey Post by: magmavander on June 17, 2008, 01:00:06 PM Hi K,
this is really a cool one. It has a kind of nostalgic feel. I agree that it has this special 50's/60's sounding and melodic lines. I can imagine this on a 'Jacques Tati' movie. Thumb Up also for wyatt and offthewall's work. Great! A keeper!! bye mag |
